About The Role

ARAG UK is looking to bring on board a driven and proficient Chief Risk Officer to hold responsibility for providing second line of defence assurance to the group for all risk management related topics. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role is instrumental in ensuring a risk management system, as well as a governance and control culture are adhered to in the group in order to manage all risks within the framework of the risk appetite defined by the Management Board. The successful candidate will hold responsibility for the Internal Control System, including risk and control assessment and reporting across all in-scope processes, carried out primarily in accordance with the UK regulators as well as the requirements of the ARAG Group. 

Key responsibilities include:
  • Reporting to the firm’s governing body on the firm’s risk exposures relative to its risk appetite and tolerance
  • Assessing the extent to which the risks of the business strategy and plans are consistent with the risk appetite of the management body
  • Informing the management body of the company if the business strategies or plans exceed the company's risk appetite and tolerance
  • Providing risk-focused advice and information into the setting and individual application of the firm’s remuneration police
  • Ensuring that the data used by the firm to assess its risks are fit for purpose in terms of quality, quantity and breadth
  • Providing oversight and challenge of the firm’s systems and controls in respect of risk management
  • Providing oversight and validation of the firm’s internal and external reporting of risk and controls
  • Ensuring the adequacy of risk information, risk analysis and risk training provided to members of the firm’s governing body

About You

We’d like to hear from applicants with detailed knowledge of the PRA, FCA, EIOPA and associated regulators’ approach to Risk, as well as Solvency II and its implementation in the UK and best practice risk approaches. You'll have the ability to express independent thought in a constructive way, and work constructively with Group Risk management, Internal audit, Compliance, Underwriting, Actuarial and Finance. 

In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Ability to analyse data and justify conclusions.
Able to act as a partner on a consultancy basis.
Dip IRM (Institute of Risk Management) or equivalent level of education / industry experience
Previous line management experience
Experience coaching and developing of a high performing team and delivering training
Maintaining documentation appropriate to the task in hand
