About The Role

We are recruiting for an Application Support Developer to join our IT team in central Bristol on a 28 hour per week basis. Working closely with the in-house Architecture Team, Development and IT Operations Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and supporting user interfaces and integration services for the modernisation of our I-series (legacy system). In addition, they will be responsible for 2nd and 3rd support for applications that are hosted on the I-series.

The successful candidate will work closely across the IT Team as well as the wider Technology, Data and Strategic Change department to ensure solutions are designed and built to be fit for purpose and that they meet business and operational requirements. As a result, we are looking for applicants who have good verbal and written communication skills and who are able to interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers and subject matter experts.

We are looking for candidates that have knowledge of the Solution Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) and who are able to deliver solutions to the DAS defined SDLC and governance and ensure all project gateways are passed.

It is important that the successful candidate is able to contribute as part of a team to get maximum effectiveness from the IT Department, encouraging team work and demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills both inside and outside of the department.

About You

We are ideally looking for candidates who are technical subject matter experts and who are able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in developing on an IBM AS400;
  • Good experience with developing in Free-Format RPG,RPGIV,CLLE,CLP;
  • Experience of using embedded SQL;
  • Experience with Web services;
  • Experience with XML parsing, XSD, SOAP , REST;
  • Understanding of SOA, andbuilding solutions within an SOA environment;
  • Experience of full development cycle;
  • Inquisitorial and problem solving focus to provide exceptional service to all the end users;
  • Perform incidents and service requests in line with service schedule SLA’s;
  • Ensure all Application issues are dealt with in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with published SLA’s;
  • A willingness to provide cover for colleagues in EDI task activities to cover sickness/holidays;
  • An awareness of the key IT and cyber risks; and
  • A thirst for learning and a passion for technology, with an enthusiasm to stay up-to-date with industry trends and advances,

A good understanding of project management good practice and Agile methodologies would be a distinct advantage but is not an essential requirement for this position.

Please note that this is a part time (28 hours) permanent position and we are happy to have discussions around flexible working options.
