About The Role

We are looking for a Commercial Litigation/Construction Lawyer (a Solicitor/FILEX (ideally 2-6 years PQE) to join our Complex Litigation team based in Bristol on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract. From the outset you can expect to handle a varied caseload of complex litigation matters in a team that encourages early responsibility, whilst ensuring appropriate supervision, mentoring and training.

The main tasks will include:

  • Taking control of a range of construction disputes, together with some general commercial litigation (depending on experience);
  • assessing prospects of success quickly and accurately in new cases that might be factually dense and/or legally complex;
  • providing confident and clear advice to a diverse range of clients (including individuals, SMEs and large companies);
  • drafting and preparing all necessary pleadings (with Counsel’s assistance where appropriate) and litigating cases, where necessary, through to trial or an Adjudicator’s decision;
  • resolving claims via a range of ADR methods including mediation and negotiation;
  • becoming involved in business development alongside the team leader to win new mandates in the insurance and wider market; and
  • demonstrating a commercial awareness in the resolution of cases and working with the wider team to streamline processes and procedures in order to maximise revenue and profitability;

About You

We are looking for applicants with an expertise in contentious work and who:

  • Are qualified solicitors or FILEXs, ideally with 2-6 years PQE however more experienced applicants will be considered.
  • Have experience of working within the litigation sphere and have developed some expertise in contentious construction work or have specialised in construction generally (both contentious and non-contentious).
  • Are familiar with standard form JCT contracts.
  • Ideally have experience of arbitration, adjudication, mediation and litigation within the construction industry.
  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Are able to provide excellent client service to a diverse range of clients
  • Are commercially minded with experience of working in a busy environment and dealing with complex issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Have an interest in developing their range of legal skills and areas of specialism and be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to client care and the quality of their work.
  • Have an interest in business development and be willing to work with the team leader to develop new areas of work.
