About The Role

We have an exciting new role for a Legal Assistant to join our Personal Injury department in Bristol on a permanent basis where you will assist a team of Litigators in handling a caseload of litigated personal injury claims.

Working in a team environment you will provide all forms of administrative support to the team including; calls to clients, medical agencies and insurers to chase correspondence, resolving ledger queries, dealing with routine client issues and general tasks such as collating Court paperwork and trial bundles. In addition you can expect to support the team with cost matters.

As a Legal Assistant your main duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Assisting a team of litigators handling personal injury claims from inception to conclusion and ensuring all steps are taken to bring claims to a successful conclusion as quickly as possible;
  • Making contacts with clients as required;
  • Liaising with medical agencies to obtain medical evidence in a timely manner;
  • Supporting fee earners with settling files and submitting files for closure when appropriate – if, for example, there is no prospect of success;
  • Ensuring that proper attendance notes are kept of all telephone calls handled by you and that all attendance notes are made promptly;
  • Chasing of third party insurers/police/client’s insurers to obtain documentation for litigators to form an assessment of liability;
  • Ensuring that paper and electronic files are maintained in good order;
  • Logging and scanning incoming post;
  • Recording time appropriately and maximising costs recovery;
  • Taking all steps to bring claims to a successful conclusion promptly and in accordance with the Claims Handling Model if appropriate;
  • Ensuring that all limitation dates and Court deadlines are complied with and properly diarised;
  • Assisting other Fee Earners as directed from time to time; and
  • Identifying, diarising and complying with applicable time limits and assisting in ensuring compliance with court directions.

About You

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Experience of a role as a legal assistant, ideally with assisting in handling caseloads of Claimant personal injury cases in a team environment;
  • excellent client care skills, be able to work as a team, pay attention to detail and be highly organised; and
  • an understanding of CFA funding and ATE Insurance is an advantage but not essential.
