About The Role

We are looking for a Solicitor/FILEX (0-4 years PQE) to join our Commercial/Complex Litigation team based in Bristol.   From the outset you will be required to handle a varied caseload of complex litigation matters in a team that encourages early responsibility, whilst ensuring appropriate supervision, mentoring and training.

The team handles a broad range of litigation instructions including professional negligence, construction disputes, commercial contract disputes, restrictive covenant/confidentiality disputes and broader commercial litigation.  The team operates in a busy, thriving and friendly environment and with ambitious growth projected in the coming years there are real opportunities for long term career advancement.

Your main tasks will include:

  • taking control of a broad range of commercial litigation claims with a possible emphasis, depending on experience and/or personal preference, on commercial contract, professional negligence and/or construction matters;
  • assessing prospects of success quickly and accurately in new cases that might be factually dense and/or legally complex;
  • providing confident and clear advice to a diverse range of clients (including individuals, SMEs and large companies);
  • drafting and preparing all necessary pleadings (with Counsel’s assistance where appropriate) and litigating cases through to trial, where necessary, in both Fast and Multi Track;
  • resolving claims via a range of ADR methods including mediation and negotiation;
  • becoming involved in business development alongside the team leader to win new mandates in the insurance and wider market; and
  • demonstrating a commercial awareness in the resolution of cases and working with the wider team to streamline processes and procedures in order to maximise revenue and profitability.
About You

We would like to hear from solicitors or candidates with equivalent qualifying experience, who are looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, modern and supportive environment.

As a key member of the team you will:

  • Have experience of working within the commercial litigation sphere and ideally you will have dealt previously with commercial contract, professional negligence and/or construction cases either within a mixed caseload or a specialist team;
  • be confident litigating at all levels of court and have experience of ADR, including mediation;
  • be commercially minded with experience of working in a busy environment and dealing with complex issues quickly and efficiently;
  • have an interest in developing your range of legal skills and areas of specialism;
  • be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to client care and attention to detail; and
  • have an interest in business development and be willing to work with the team leader to develop new areas of work.
