About The Role

We are looking for an Associate to join our Contract disputes team based in Bristol. As part of the wider Litigation and Dispute Management (LDM) team, this position will lead a small team of 2-3 paralegals who deal with a varied caseload of small claims litigation matters including; building disputes, misrepresentation issues, vehicle disputes, debt matters etc. acting for both claimants and defendants and undertaking all parts of the litigation process.

The main tasks of the role include: 

  • Leading, supervising, developing and mentoring a team of 2-3 contract band 1 paralegals of varying experience;
  • Assisting the team and department to meet cost and other targets;
  • Reviewing and evaluating contract claims consisting mainly of consumer contract disputes, but including some lower value commercial disputes and claimant professional negligence matters, building disputes and occasionally employment law disputes being brought in the County Court;
  • Running a caseload of contract disputes of a Fast and Small Claims track value, under supervision;
  • Assessing prospects of success quickly and accurately in new cases, providing confident and clear advice to a diverse range of clients including individuals and companies; and
  • Assisting where needed with complaints management and other projects to improve departmental efficiency and improve the customer journey.
About You

 

We are looking for candidates (LLB/FILEX/GDL) that have an interest in developing their range of legal skills and can demonstrate: 

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of contract law and civil procedures;
  • A proven track record in contract litigation with at least 12 months’ experience of running a contract litigation caseload including experience of fast-track cases;
  • Confidence and an ability to take on a broad range of litigated claims and to pursue these to settlement or trial or to resolve the claims via ADR, including mediation;
  • An ability to be commercially minded with experience of working in a busy environment and dealing with sometimes complex issues quickly and efficiently;
  • A commitment to client care and the quality of their work;
  • Strong leadership and, especially, mentoring skills to be able to develop the paralegal’s within the team; and
  • Excellent customer care skills
