About The Role

DAS Law are excited to be recruiting for a Principal Associate in our Personal Injury department on a 12-month fixed term basis to cover maternity. As a critical part of the Personal Injury Leadership Team, this role will involve taking an operational lead on RTA, EL/PL fixed fee regime, Multi-track claims and damage-only motor claims litigation matters.

The role involves the monitoring of service standards, professional compliance obligations and client care, together with operational management within the department. Whilst the role does not have a direct fee earning responsibility, the role holder should have experience of personal injury claims handling.

Further responsibilities of the role include:

  • Line managing the Claims Support team, who service the central reception line for the law firm, administrative tasks, and are the initial customer facing team for all motor claims
  • Line managing the department’s Graduate Academy members
  • Responsibility for the department’s costs performance to include recruitment costs and driving improvements & efficiencies in case handling and reducing write-offs
  • Consulting and taking responsibility for driving change to claims handling models to improve efficiencies
  • Dealing with complaints at first tier and providing an appeal function under the company’s complaints procedure, acting as a referral point for resolving compliance queries and Code of Conduct issues
  • Taking the lead on complaint audits, analysing trends and delivering on recommendations to make improvements against root causes
  • Building strong relationships with business partners, attending quarterly review meetings as required, together with coordinating and delivering on business partner audit requirements
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues within DAS Legal Expenses, attending meetings to improve collaboration and efficiencies across the group, significantly in respect of non-personal injury claims, outsourcing, claims and marketing
  • Consulting and leading on a training plan for the department, taking responsibility for coordinating the training needs for all teams, liaising with the Group’s Learning and Development Team in relation to soft skills, whilst coordinating technical training separately
About You

We are seeking individuals with the following skills & experience:

  • A strong and effective leader of people with the ability to engage and motivate teams to achieve collective high performance
  • Strong technical experience in the analysis of MI, financial reporting and other reporting metrics
  • Technical knowledge of the claims handling process for non-personal injury claims and both FT and MT claims handling in EL/PL and motor claims
  • Experience of developing individuals to achieve their full potential, including tackling difficult people management issues where required
  • A commitment to mentor, coach and improve technical ability within the department
  • A proven track record of managing supplier relationships, tenders and financial reconciliation of those supplier accounts at an operational level.
  • Detailed knowledge of all regulatory issues, compliance and the Code of Conduct
  • Excellent working knowledge of case management systems/processes
  • Experience and ability to analyse P&L accounts and experience of making significant efficiency savings and managing cost/budgets
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to engage with business partners and key contacts within the Legal Expenses Insurer to achieve outputs
