About The Role

DAS UK Group (part of the Munich Re Group), the market-leading insurer and legal services provider, is seeking to recruit a Tax Manager to join our dedicated Finance Team on a 12-month fixed term basis. Based in central Bristol, just a short walk from the train station, this is a great opportunity to use technical and collaborative communication skills within a friendly and supportive environment, promoting responsible tax compliance by forging strong relationships with business areas throughout the DAS UK Group, the wider Munich Re Group and HMRC.

As the Tax Manager, your core responsibilities will be to ensure DAS UK Group meets all of its direct and indirect tax reporting requirements and to ensure robust tax compliance in line with the Group Tax Strategy. You can also expect to optimise tax by effective tax planning for day-to-day operations, projects, new deals and initiatives.

In addition to the above, your day-to-day duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Ensuring that the external compliance tax reporting and associated reconciliations are undertaken accurately, on a timely basis and in a compliant manner (including but not limited to VAT, IPT, Corporation Tax and monitoring HR tax compliance);
  • Ensuring that the quarterly Corporation Tax financial reporting calculation processes, reconciliations are performed in a timely manner for Group reporting purposes;
  • Drafting Corporation Tax annual statutory reporting disclosures for all companies in the DAS UK Group;
  • Identifying, recording, measuring and reporting specific Tax Risk issues as and when they arise, identifying mitigations and implementing on a risk-prioritised basis;
  • Providing technical tax support to different areas of the business as and when required (primarily Indirect Tax);
  • Monitoring and reviewing strategies, policies and processes relating to the role with a view to managing implementation of improvements to increase efficiency where possible;
  • Building strong relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including Finance, Risk & Compliance, HR, Munich Re UK Group Tax and auditors as required;
  • Managing HMRC relationships and any associated voluntary submissions or enquiries;
  • Developing risk awareness throughout the business to reduce Compliance Risk;
  • Maintaining an appropriate tax transfer pricing policy;
  • Identifying and managing an appropriate response to applicable tax developments, influencing the business accordingly and ensuring the UK Group is fully compliant;
  • Helping to build appropriate awareness, capabilities and sense of ownership with colleagues across the business impacted by tax considerations;
  • Managing UK Group tax risks and Senior Accounting Officer’s tax certification process; and
  • Maintaining robust controls and governance for all tax processes.
About You

Ideally, we are looking for applicants that have:

  • ACA/ACCA/CTA qualifications (essential) with ideally 5+ years’ PQE and a strong academic background (to degree standard);
  • Detailed knowledge of the UK tax system – both direct and indirect taxes;
  • Experience of dealing with tax authorities and resolution of queries or specific enquiry management;
  • Project management skills to plan, prioritise and work to meet deadlines;
  • Commercial/practical approach to the application of accounting/tax knowledge;
  • An open and transparent communication style with the ability to listen, influence and challenge appropriately;
  • An ability to discuss/explain tax concepts with staff of all levels;
  • A desire and ability to question and challenge the status quo and build compelling cases for change where appropriate; and
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to work within fixed reporting deadlines.
